Gergely Szabó, the tour guide, recommends the Veloregio routes called In the footsteps of the Roman aqueducts. The tours follow the system built by the Romans - fresh water from the Kőszeg Hills flowed through underground canals to the city of Savaria (Szombathely).
Both routes - the longer and the shorter version - lead on cycle paths and side roads from Szombathely in a westerly direction. At the border of Dozmat, the routes pass the reservoir and the Krisztina Lookout on the hill above the village, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Kőszeg Hills.
In the outskirts of Bucsu you can visit the excavated section of the Roman aqueduct and the transport memorial, which is a guardhouse of the former Szombathely-Pinkafő railway line. At Bucsu you can turn back towards Szombathely, but you can also head towards Rohonc or Bozsok.
From here the longer route turns east and descends to the Gyöngyös stream, between Lukácsháza and Kőszeg you can visit another reservoir, Lake Abért, from where the town of Kőszeg is only a few kilometres away. The Roman aqueduct route returns to Szombathely, passing through the intersecting villages of Lukácsháza, Gyöngyösfalu and Gencsapáti, and back to the county seat. Along the way you will find the Holdfényliget Adventure Park, which offers a few hours of recreation.
